About FreshAirReview

FreshAirReview is an independent editorial publication reviewing indoor air quality products: air purifiers, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, monitors, and the filters that keep them effective. We're a synthesis publication, not a testing lab. We systematically read RTINGS' chamber measurements, HouseFresh and AirPurifierFirst independent reviews, AHAM CADR certification, EPA databases, manufacturer specifications, and verified owner reports, then present the synthesis through a transparent 5-criteria framework.

What we cover

  • Air purifiers (HEPA, carbon, smart units)
  • Humidifiers (cool mist, warm mist, ultrasonic)
  • Dehumidifiers (basement, crawlspace, whole-house)
  • Air quality monitors (PM2.5, VOC, CO2, radon)
  • Filters and replacements (MERV ratings, OEM vs aftermarket)
  • Whole-home systems (HVAC-integrated, ERVs, HRVs)

What we don't cover

  • Industrial HVAC installation (different audience)
  • Medical diagnosis or treatment of respiratory conditions
  • Air quality monitoring at industrial scale (occupational use)

How we work

Every review applies a five-criteria weighted scoring rubric. Manufacturer specs are never trusted at face value without independent corroboration from RTINGS, HouseFresh, AirPurifierFirst, AHAM CADR certification, or verified owner reports at 6+ months of ownership. Where chamber data and owner reports diverge, we report both: chamber data describes engineering capability; owner reports describe real-room performance.

Editorial independence

We participate in affiliate programs for many products we cover. This is disclosed at the top of every article in compliance with FTC guidance. Commission rates have no bearing on scoring. We do not allow vendors to review articles before publication.

Who writes for FreshAirReview

All articles are produced by the FreshAirReview Editorial Team. Where building-science or HVAC expertise is required, we cite from peer-reviewed indoor-air-quality literature, BPI and CIH professional standards documents, and trade-press coverage by identifiable industry contributors. We don't invent anonymized expert quotes.
